Bio and Artist Statement
Born and raised in Sydney since October, 2000. Living and working in Darlinghurst. Brodie has been studying at the National Art School since 2019, he is at the end of completing his batchelor of fine art degree and will be begining his Masters degree in 2022. In 2021, Brodie had shown in a group show ‘Soft goods’, a show curated by Mil Skelton in collaboration with Lilac City Studios. He has also curated three shows from 2020-2021 in collaboration with a small corner convineince store owner by the name of Yu Xin Ji in Darlinghurst. They were known as the ‘Ezy Art’ shows.
Brodie Cullen is interested in liminality and how it affects the value of objects in the domestic setting aswell as the street. Due to everyday objects mimicking the human form his works attempt to use historical shifts to investigate their liminal placement. Pushing boundaries between paintings and objects as well as the viewers' understanding and their own ready made ideas and meaning of them.
